How did you prepare to handle the increased physical and tactical demands of senior-level rugby compared to the under-23s?
I received significant support from the Strength and Conditioning staff to enhance my physicality and strength. In terms of fitness, I felt I was in a good place, but the mental side of the game was a much tougher challenge for me.
What aspects of your game did you feel you needed the most improvement to succeed at the senior XV level?
I needed to improve my organisation and basic skill set. The game at the senior level moves a lot faster, so it was crucial to position myself a few phases ahead. Additionally, the higher tempo means your skills are tested more frequently and under pressure.
How did you plan to adjust to the faster pace and higher intensity of senior rugby matches?
I focused on doing extra work after training sessions. I was already quite fit, but I aimed to become the fittest player on the team, ensuring that I could still perform at my best under fatigue.
In what ways have your coaches and teammates helped you integrate into the senior squad, both on and off the field?
Mal Roberts was particularly helpful when I first joined, often keeping me on the sidelines to ease the transition so I didn’t feel overwhelmed. When I was eventually thrown into the deep end, I didn’t have much time to overthink things. The senior players were incredibly supportive throughout the season - Connor O’Reilly provided guidance off the pitch, while Lewis Bean and Semesa Rokoduguni helped me navigate the game on the pitch.
What are your goals now that you've made the transition to the senior XV?
My primary goals are to maintain my position as a starting player and to represent both myself and Army rugby at the highest possible level.
